We have been accepted to receive a service dog for J.J.
We recently raised donations for 4 Paws for Ability.
We are so grateful for all support extended to this effort.
By helping raise funds in honor of J.J., you helped start the the care and training of his much-needed service dog!
Meet J.J.,A sweet little boy you would love to meet and spend time with! He has blonde hair, hazel eyes, mischevious grin, and more character than you can fit in one small body! |

J.J. has several neurological conditions that make his life challenging. Cerebral Palsy causes him to be unable to walk or talk. In 2005, J.J. was diagnosed after having an MRI with Periventricular Leukomalacia, a condition where areas of the white matter of the brain died caused by an unknown event occurring before, at, or after birth. This event also caused Optic Nerve Atrophy, the death of portions of his optic nerve, leaving him legally blind in both eyes. Treating these disorders were challenging enough and then he was further diagnosed earlier this year with Autism and Mental Retardation.
As is the case with many autistics, J.J. often lives in his own little world. He relates to all things existing around him (including persons) as objects. Over time and with much care and therapy, he has begun to show some improvement, such as short periods of affection, but does not normally demonstrate the cognitive ability to relate to his surroundings.
J.J. has been approved for a multiple-function service dog, trained by 4 Paws for Ability. This dog will be specially trained to accompany him everywhere that he goes and will be trained to comfort him, thus helping him to calm himself when he is frustrated.

Most of 4 Paws dogs are rescued from shelters. 4 Paws will be bringing freedom and independence to this precious dog, and the dog will be bringing freedom and independence to J.J. |
4 Paws trains each dog "case specific" so it is custom matched to J.J.'s special needs. They eliminate the necessity of a long waiting list (the average wait for a service dog from other trainers is 2-5 years) by allowing each family to raise the $9,000 to $14,000 that it takes to cover the costs of the extensive training. This actually makes it possible to get the dog in much less time than with many other trainers.
We appreciate any donations that were made on J.J.'s behalf. To find out more about 4 Paws, please click on their link above.
